I was reading the above article and saw your post and felt compelled to reply...my daughter put me through the same thing and I feel like my strategy worked like a charm (although all kids are different, but its worth a try!) My Emma would only fall asleep if i was rocking her or rubbing her back and after many many MANY night of no sleep I couldnt take it anymore. I read an article on how to break the habit of helping your child sleep. I weaned my daughter in two weeks and now she sleeps through the night like a baby should. I used to rock my daughter in a rocking chair so to start, I would hold her, but i would rock her. I did that for 2/3 nights. Then the next 2/3 nights i left her in her crib but stood next to it, laying her down whenever she got up and just left my hand on her back so she knew i was there. Next i would sit in the chair a few feet from the crib and hum a song lightly (2/3 nights) then I stood in the doorway (2/3nights) and i shut the door leaving a crack and would speak softly letting her know i was there and she needed to go to sleep. And WAAALLLLAAAAA! Dont get me wrong, there was a lot of crying involved but I made the path for what i expected her to do and she did it. Hello sleep for mommy!! Hope this helps for you. I know that feeling of just wanting to cry and give up... It does get easier!! XOXO

Hi,

Our 17 month old daughter has suddenly taken to playing in her cot for up to 2 hours before she finally goes to sleep.

During the day she can nap for 1-3 hours and I tend to just let her sleep as long as she wants because I feel she obviously needs it. Would you suggest stopping her nap? Or maybe moving her into a small bed?

Advice is much appreciated, thanks
Sarah
