Hi there,
Since day one it has been very difficult to get my son to sleep well. He is two and a half, and lives in two different homes as his dad and i are separated. At his dad's there is no consistent routine set. At mine I do toothbrushing, reading, bottle and prayers. He usuallygets outof his toddler bed a few times before falling asleep. Then he wakes up crying for mommy every few hours through the night. I am at a loss and really need some advice please.

I have this problem, but it's a little different. My toddler wakes up so upset, and I know it's because he needs to go to the bathroom, it takes a few minutes to get him to calm down and go to the bathroom, then he refuses to go back to sleep on his own, he needs us to lay with him. Otherwise he cries, no reason can make him calm down. The other problem is that he shares a room with his sister, so letting him scream it out isn't really an option. I've tried the reward route, the consequence route, and the "this is your bear to sleep with you" route, but in 5 minutes he'll come to us again asking for us to lay with him. Any suggestions?

Hahahaha, I completely agree! I mean, come on people, they're toddlers for god sakes. I would NEVER lock a child that young in their room. That's very traumatizing for them I'm sure. In my opinion, parents who choose to lock a toddler in their rooms are probably the reason why children have night terrors. If they weren't having night terrors before this sort of "action" from the parents was taken, you bet your sweet ass that they'll most likely have them after. Especially if they're afraid of the dark or something. I'm not saying all of the advice given by the Dana is wrong, but I'm going to have to disagree with her on this one. There's got to be another way. A more positive way. I have four boys, all under the age of 10 so I'm not just some "miss know it all" who doesn't have any experience when it comes to dealing with difficult children. Believe me, I've been through it all. Parents should do whatever is comfortable for them, I just simply don't agree with Dana.
